Cables & Cabling

ANDROMEDA Industries has established itself as an innovator in the wire rope industry in Australia and was a finalist in the Tamworth 2019 Quality Business Awards, in two categories, Excellence in Innovation and Excellence in Customer Service in Manufacturing/Construction and Rural division.

Andromeda general manager Annette Williams said she believes the company was a finalist because it is at the forefront of manufacturing Superflex cables, and has been the only manufacturer of this type of cable worldwide.

“Its special field is the design and manufacture of plaited and woven steel cables for rigging gear and terminal systems for these cables,” Mrs Williams said.

“The base products were originally invented by Andromeda in the 1970’s for specific municipal council requirements in the electrical field.

“These products have been adapted, improved and product range increased over time to today, from that first product to now, they have always been well received by the market as they minimise risk to construction workers lives and last longer compared to other products. “These factors alone outweigh the added cost for quality.”

Mrs Williams said innovation has always been key to the company’s growth and development, with the original design and manufacture of Superflex cable being the catalyst for a multitude of products.

“The goal is now to adapting Superflex to competing in an entirely new age where some slings are now made from high tech ultra-light weight fibres,” she said.

“Andromeda has adapted Superflex to this new age by increasing the cable size and capacity enabling supply of slings capable of lifting upwards of 300t.

“Andromeda is proud of its products contributing to added safety to building sites, mines and offshore oil and gas rigs around the world.

“This also contributes high benchmark standards in the rigging industry to ensure lower quality and less safe products are not considered by companies doing the work onsite.

“As rigging work is very repetitive with riggers using the slings up to several hundred times a day depending upon the job, they are sensitive to the way the slings perform. Our products are easily handled leading to higher safety and efficiency of their work.”
