The Australian - Wish Magazine - - GROOMING -

Imagine three thatched bales with twin treatment beds, open sides hung with floaty white curtains and rattan blinds, just metres from the sea. Pretty therapist Ari offers you cool lime juice and a choice of sweet massage oils in stoppered glass bottles with names such as Serenity, Peace and Bliss. There is the scent of frangipani on the breeze, the thrum of waves, and the prospect of therapies such as scrubs with coffee grains or smooth chocolate, Ayurvedic energy-flow options and good, strong massages using muslin compresses of healing herbs or heated volcanic pumice.

Belmond Jimbaran Puri’s Beach Spa would never win a contemporary design award but it is an authentic haven of pampering without all the on-trend frills and flounces, mood lighting and wind chimes. It sits at the far end of this flowered estate at Jimbaran Beach, one of the island’s best swimming and sunset-viewing venues. If you prefer, have a massage on a day-bed near the water’s edge, by the main pool or in the garden of your walled villa, surrounded by bright bursts of hibiscus and bougainvillea.

But it is to the Beach Spa that most guests wander, across the clipped green lawns, past the lily ponds, over the stepping stones. The savvy among them have invested in inclusive packages that feature a daily session, from foot scrubs and reflexology to a flower bath in the whirlpool bale or even a 150-minute spa odyssey that includes a refreshing facial and zingy peel.
