More than half of Australians exceed the World Health Organisation’s recommended daily intake of added sugars, according to new research. The Sydney University study, published in the British Journal Of Nutrition , reveals 55 per cent of the 8000 participants consumed more than the recommended 10 per cent of daily energy from added sugar. Of children aged between nine and 13 years, 76 per cent exceeded the guidelines. “These foods add a lot of calories and provide little nutrition,” says Professor of Public Health Nutrition, Timothy Gill.
