WHAT TO DO IN JUNE

-

Prune all dead buds, flowers and mouldy fruit – all will harbour disease spores that may infect your plants’ new growth in spring. Scrub outdoor tiles, walls and concrete with bathroom cleaner to remove moss and mould, and spruce them up. Give moss in the lawn a spritz with cleaner if you want to get rid of it, too – or learn to love your moss. Pick faded hydrangeas or “woody” banksias and ornamental grass seed heads, and use them au naturel in flower arrangements, or spray them with gold or silver paint, or pale mauve. Pick the last of your late winter apples, such as Lady Williams, your medlars, Beurre Bosc pears and late quinces, for luscious winter eating. Rejoice in winter-soft Tahitian limes and other citrus fruit.
