CAESAREANS LINKED TO OBESITY

Babies born by caesarean are 15 per cent more likely to be obese as children, research from Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health has found. While caesareans are life-saving in many cases, they “also have known risks to the mother and the newborn”, says Jorge Chavarro, the study’s lead author. “Our findings show the risk of obesity in the baby could be another factor to consider.”
