Science KNOWS BEST
Is it DNA or Olay? After 10 years of research, Olay scientists reveal the secret of women who inexplicably look 10 years younger
We all know them. Women who somehow appear 10 years younger than their driver’s licence would suggest. And we all wonder, ‘What’s that about?’ Is it genes? Surgery?
Clean living?
Olay partnered with Dr. Alexa Kimball from Harvard Medical School and genetics company 23andMe to conduct an advanced genome study into the relationship between DNA and skin ageing. An analysis of 2,500 women and 20,000 unique genes found that around 10 per cent of women were “exceptional agers”. But why? Olay and 23andMe worked with 155,000 participants to get to the bottom of it.
THE BREAKTHROUGH
Scientists concluded that just two genetic variations of DNA were linked to exceptional skin ageing – with the good news being that around two-thirds of regular people have them too! Unfortunately, many women throw away this natural advantage through poor lifestyle choices. Skin care habits, UV exposure and hydration were all named as key contributors to being an exceptional ager.
