A BABY MEERKAT is thriving after surviving a terrifying “kit-napping” ordeal in September, having been snatched from his Perth Zoo enclosure the day before a planned birthday celebration. The infant meerkat was just one month old when he vanished, and zookeepers feared he may have fallen prey to a predatory bird. Police later discovered the kit in a home south of Perth. Zookeepers were originally afraid the kit’s family would reject him once he was returned, but have reported he is readjusting nicely. He has been named “Salama”, meaning safe.
