A BABY MEERKAT is thriv­ing af­ter sur­viv­ing a ter­ri­fy­ing “kit-nap­ping” or­deal in Septem­ber, hav­ing been snatched from his Perth Zoo en­clo­sure the day be­fore a planned birth­day cel­e­bra­tion. The in­fant meerkat was just one month old when he van­ished, and zookeep­ers feared he may have fallen prey to a preda­tory bird. Po­lice later dis­cov­ered the kit in a home south of Perth. Zookeep­ers were orig­i­nally afraid the kit’s fam­ily would re­ject him once he was re­turned, but have re­ported he is read­just­ing nicely. He has been named “Salama”, mean­ing safe.
