We know a high-fibre diet aids digestion. Now a landmark study shows it can dramatical­ly reduce our risk of a range of diseases. Research commission­ed by the World Health Organizati­on showed those with a high fibre intake had a 15-30 per cent decrease in heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer versus those with low-fibre diets. Optimum intake? 25-29g fibre per day.
