About the author
Best-selling US author Lisa See was born in Paris in 1955. “My parents were students, and I lived in a dresser drawer for the first six weeks of my life,” she tells
The Weekly. “That said, I consider myself to be a fourth generation
Los Angeleno. My great-grandfather was the godfather-patriarch of
Los Angeles Chinatown and most of my life and all of my roots are in
Los Angeles.” Lisa worked as a journalist before becoming an author. Her first book, On Gold
Mountain, was made into an opera for which she wrote the libretto and also a museum exhibition revealing LA in the 1930s from the perspective of her seven-year-old father. Lisa’s books centre on the strong bonds between women. The Island of Sea
Women is her 11th novel.
