MARY AND FREDERIK:

As Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary, Juliet Rieden looks at what makes this couple click.

In Denmark, 15 years of marriage is not a notable celebration, but over here we celebrate with crystal. So, if Crown Prince Frederik is on his game he might search out some of Tasmania’s rare crystals as a very special anniversary gift for his wife, who grew up in Hobart. Denmark’s Heir Apparent has proved himself to be a romantic right from their wedding day when he teared up in the church, and later at the reception at Fredensborg Palace proclaimed: “Like the moon at night you shine ... I love you, Mary. Come, let us go, come let us see. Throughout a thousand worlds, weightless love awaits.” →

While it may have sounded a little over the top, Frederik has continued to wear his heart on his sleeve, and last year at her husband’s 50th birthday bash Mary admitted the couple are still floating on their very own cloud. “I am so happy that you swept me off my feet and that we dared to fall for each other,” she cooed.

The Crown Prince said that he knew immediately he had found his soulmate when he and Mary met in the Slip Inn bar in Sydney. Locals were giddy hosting the Olympics while this slightly lost young royal saw his future right in front of him. Mary also felt that “something clicked”, beginning her road to European princess-ship.

In Denmark Crown Princess Mary is a star, taking the monarchy to new heights of popularity, and with their four children the Crown Prince Couple are ready to take the next step whenever called as King and Queen Consort.

In the meantime we wish them a very happy crystal wedding anniversary.
