Honouring the ultimate Bond girl
IN HER ROLE AS a Bond girl, Honor Blackman was a sex symbol. Yet to a generation of women who watched her play Avenger Cathy Gale, she represented indepedence and empowerment. The actress, mother and grandmother died peacefully last month aged 94. Born in East London, Honor was introduced to acting by her elocution teacher. She appeared on the West End before being cast in The Avengers. She cemented her place as a cultural icon playing Pussy Galore opposite Sean Connery’s James Bond (together at right). Her family paid tribute to her talent and achievements. “She contributed to some of the great film and theatre productions of our time.”
