Skin support for the whole family

-

Children

and babies often suffer rashes and sensitivity as they come into contact with potential new allergens every day. Supporting the skin barrier with gentle skincare and moisturiser helps keep irritation to a minimum. Avoid irritants like many essential oils, and use skincare products that are pH balanced, dermatologist tested and not too fragranced.

Teens

can be ravaged by hormones, which inflame the skin on the face, chest and back. Instead of banning moisturiser and scrubbing the skin, try to keep skin calm, dial down the redness and help it heal. Soap- and SLS-free cleansers are a great start, while a light clay mask weekly will help absorb excess oil. Dabbing on Tea Tree Oil (5% concentration) can reduce the number of spots but can be irritating, so go easy.

Parents

may be starting to see drier skin and some of the effects of ageing, such as slacker skin or stretch marks. A good moisturiser won’t restore youthful skin but will go a long way towards improving the look and feel of skin today and promoting fresher, firmer skin in future. You can layer some coconut oil under any moisturiser for an extra fatty acid boost, especially on dry spots like the elbows and knees. Just remember it’s a myth that coconut oil is a sunscreen, it only slightly boosts protection.

Grandparents

may be experiencing finer, thinner skin. Covering up in long layers and a hat will protect it from everyday scrapes and sun damage. Avoiding harsh, drying soaps and applying a rich moisturiser daily will create more flexible, resilient skin that’s less likely to tear.

Dermeze Moisturising Cream $7.99.
