There’s a diverse – and entertaining – list of fresh TV releases wending their way to screens this month.

The Voice (Nine, from May 24)

Darren McMullin and Renee Bargh co-host as the red chairs prepare to turn again for a night season. The four coaches were midway through filming before COVID-19 hit. It’s yet to be seen how this will affect the reality series but producers insist we’ll see more twists and turns than ever!

Filthy Rich and Homeless (SBS, from June 1)

Season 3 of this observational documentary series explores the growing homelessness crisis in regional and remote Australia. Five new public faces – including Network Ten’s Dr Andrew Rochford – swap their own privileged lives to gain a valuable (and often uncomfortable) first-hand insight.

Flack (FOX One, starts May 18)

Picking up six weeks after we left off, in series two of this dark comedy

Anna Paquin’s spiralling celebrity PR Robyn is given some shock news – she’s pregnant. Sam Neill joins the cast. If you’re coming to the show late you can binge the first season on Foxtel’s On Demand service.

The Great (Stan, out now)

Nicholas Hoult and Elle Fanning lead the cast of this new satirical comedydrama series. A self-proclaimed “anti-historical” take on the rise of Catherine the Great from unknown to Empress in 18th Century Russia, this is a lavish and thoroughly enjoyable binge watch.

Grand Designs House of The Year (Lifestyle, from June 5)

From a house in Eton made entirely of cork to a London dwelling with an elaborately carved copper roof, Kevin McCloud heads around the UK to judge some of the most stunning and innovative dwellings in the land. They are all up for the Royal Institute of British Architecture 2019 prize, and the final episode will reveal the grandiose winner.
