Those extra COVID kgs and bad food habits have to go

-

For more than 20 years, the CSIRO has been conducting research into the role of nutritional factors and the effects of higher-protein, lower-carbohydrate dietary approaches for weight and health management. The CSIRO Low-Carb Diabetes Diet & Lifestyle Solution is a plan designed to help those with pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes understand the condition, and take practical steps to comprehensively improve their health and wellbeing through a complete diet and exercise solution that has been scienti cally developed and proven.

The diet

An energy controlled, nutritionally complete plan based on eating whole, nutrient-dense core foods that provides 50-70 grams of high-quality carbohydrate a day, with proportionally balanced amounts of protein and healthy fats to meet your individual needs. This amount of carbohydrate is equivalent to 3-4 pieces of bread, about 1 cup of rice, or 2 cups of fresh fruit salad. As with any changes to your lifestyle, implementing the low-carb diet for daily use can be challenging initially, although many users have reported adapting quickly to the eating plan, not least because they start to see and enjoy bene ts quite quickly.

What bene ts can I expect?

There are multiple, including – but not limited to – the following:

• increased energy and wellbeing

• improved sleep and mood

• improved blood sugar control with possible reductions in reliance on medication

• reduced weight and waist circumference (abdominal obesity)

• lower blood pressure

• improved blood fat profile

• better control of blood glucose levels

• increased physical activity level

• improved overall diet quality

In fact, the changes listed above are also the same key factors that your GP will focus on when addressing your overall health and wellbeing. Consultation with your GP and healthcare team can help you tailor the plan to your own personal needs and preferences, and integrate it within your pre-existing medical management plan.
