PRIME-TIME CRIME

Your excellent article Murder in the Suburbs (AWW, March) described a postwar crime wave involving an unusual increase in women who killed. Our current TV news reports an alarming increase in violent crimes by women and even children expressing violent behaviour. While we’re not influenced today by a world war, we have been under attack by a pandemic, which is taking a severe mental and physical toll. As the article points out, those postwar times also produced a flurry of crime-type entertainment, not unlike what is on most of our TV channels every day. One would hope that there are some influential, responsible leaders who are willing to step up and change this situation for the good of all. D. Hooper, Culburra Beach, NSW
