For adventurers
Everyone we know who’s seen the Aussie box-office hit High Ground has been raving about the film’s stunning locations, particularly in World Heritagelisted Kakadu National Park, and the approaching Top End dry season is the best time to explore it.
Cooinda Lodge, one of the main bases in the park, has a brand-new glamping option – the Outback Retreats. Built on elevated platforms for year-round usability and minimal environmental impact, the 20 Retreats (10 each accommodating either up to two adults, or two adults and two children) have been designed to reflect the Kakadu bushscape. The Lodge also has 48 motel-style rooms, two restaurants and swimming pools, and prides itself on having an oasis-type atmosphere.
A kilometre or two away are the spectacular Yellow Water wetlands; bring your binoculars – here you can see the billabong’s enormous crocodiles, buffalo, wild horses and thousands of birds. To the south, two of the must-see spots in Australia’s largest national park, Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls, are easily visited on a day tour. More at northernterritory.com
