Does dairy-free ice-cream stack up?

Dairy-free ice-cream has hit the mainstream with o erings from Peters, Connoisseu­r, Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum. Animal rights group PETA UK has just named the Vegan Magnum its best ice-cream. I was sceptical about how an “ice-cream” made of pea protein could stack up, so I decided to try one. When I bit into it, it did taste di erent, but not in a negative way. The chocolate was darker and while it didn’t have the satisfying crack of a dairy-based Magnum, the flavour was good. I actually preferred the dairy-free vanilla ice-cream to the ice-cream in the standard Magnum.
