Our Chinese history

The Australian - - COMMENTARY - Peter Dowling, Brisbane, Qld

In his book Silent Invasion, Clive Hamilton notes a claim made by former Chinese president Hu Jintao in an address to the Australian parliament in 2003 that the expeditionary fleets of the Ming dynasty reached Australian shores in the 1420s. This led, Hu Jintao claimed, to Chinese settlement in Australia where they brought Chinese culture to this land. Now if we could only find out what that exact date was.
