Natalie Taylor wears one of her creations. FASHION-savvy Far Northerners are being called on to forecast the best winter fashion trends in Cairns.

The Cairns Emerging Designers group were each asked to choose a key trend from Cairns Central’s Style Report and they then constructed an outfit around it from clothes in the centre before sketching the finished product for the public to cast their vote on.

N.A.T designer Natalie Taylor, 19, said it was different drawing from a ready-made outfit but she enjoyed creating her own geometric piece and will later hand-paint it on to an outfit to wear to Cairns Cup in August.

‘‘It’s something different that I haven’t done because you’re choosing something you haven’t made, whereas normally designers inspire other people,’’ she said.

‘‘It was an enjoyable experience and it opened your eyes up to the styles that are out there at the moment. The geometric style and colour-blocking is in.’’

Miss Taylor said the Fashion Incubator, where the CED group stock their pieces, had proven beneficial for their growing careers since it was launched at the beginning of April.

‘‘Customers are very positive and they understand that we’re all new to the business and give positive feedback,’’ she said

Voting is open until June 22.
