Crusaders dominate top-of-table battle

Southside’s Colin Potts is swamped by a band of Brothers players during their Saturday contest. SOUTHSIDE coach John Robinson believes his topranked side can improve after dominating their closest FNQ Rugby rivals on Saturday.

Crusaders proved their class with a 31- 18 win over Brothers in the top-ofthe-table clash at Stan Williams Park.

But Robinson warned that his team’s five-try performance fell well short of the standards he had established for the team.

‘‘There were phases of our game that were good but on the whole we have a lot of improvement to do,’’ he said.

‘‘We tend to start games slowly and . . . wait until after half time to really wake up and start playing.

‘‘That’s something we are going to have to fix before we face (Brothers) again.’’

Southside were able to dominate in the forwards and negate Brothers’ powerhouse backline.

Brethren coach David Robertson said Saturday’s match could be an important lesson for his improving team.

‘‘We didn’t commit ourselves like we said we were going to and they took advantage of it and flogged us,’’ he said.

‘‘At this time of the year you’ve got to apply yourselves harder and that’s what we learned today.

‘‘They are a good team and they made us pay for it.’’

Barron Trinity Bulls came up with their most comprehensive win of the season over JCU on Friday night.

The reigning premiers were 66-7 victors over the Mariners and now own second spot on the competition ladder.

Wanderers also impressed on the weekend, beating topfour contenders Port Douglas Reef Raiders 22-10.
