Rivals shoot for glory
Saints out to stop Leps’ bid for three straight netball titles
THE next chapter in one of Cairns’ most exciting sports rivalries is just hours away with Saints and Leps to battle in tonight’s division one netball grand final.
The two sides went toe-totoe over three quarters in last year’s grand final, the defending champs eventually winning it 41-37.
“I feel we’re definitely more ready for it this time around,” Saints coach Jacqui Dupuy said. “Last year there was that uncertainty about what would happen on game day and whether we could beat them.
“As a squad there is probably a bit more belief we can perform better.
“Everyone is on the same page and we have the combinations to win, it will just come down to what happens on the day.
“For some it will be their last game with Cairns Saints, so everyone can be rest assured we will leave our all on the court.”
The script could not be written any better.
Leps are chasing an unprecedented third straight title, while Saints want a win of their own in the season’s most anticipated match.
“It’s always a tough game against Saints,” Leps goalkeeper Chloe Foster said.
“They’re strong all over the court, but their defensive pressure is really effective against us, so we need to work around that. They are also an accurate shooting team, so no doubt it will be another close game.”
