Dirty side of song

- KERSTIN KEHREN

MORE than half-a-year after filming his new music video, popular local musician Chris Ah Gee is finally about to launch the clip for his song Fear.

The music video, which will be unveiled at a special launch event at The Conservatory Bar tomorrow night, was filmed in the centre of Cairns in an abandoned warehouse.

Ah Gee said Little Earth Creative videographer Kyle Wilson, who made the video with Ah Gee, “didn’t really wanna do the whole pretty boy, trying to be marketable” thing.

Instead, Wilson wanted Ah Gee to look as though he had fear. “I want you to look sweaty, I want you to look dirty,” Ah Gee, 22, recalled Wilson saying.

Ah Gee, who will soon leave Far North Queensland for the cooler climes of Sydney, considers tomorrow’s launch his “big kind of going out party” and praised the videographer.

“I’ve never seen anything like it (the clip). The dude is a freak! ... He really hit the nail on the head,” he said.

“Some of the emotion that comes out in the film clip is ridiculous.”

Ah Gee didn’t shy away when it comes to talking about the track’s arguably scandalous history. The musician rewrote the lyrics of it after his then-girlfriend cheated on him.

“She ended up actually having sex with my best friend,” Ah Gee said.

“The whole song is basically about not letting fear kind of control you and sometimes it does massively.” Fear is one of four tracks on Ah Gee’s upcoming EP of the same name. Due for release next month, the record is being produced by Mark Myers.

Tomorrow’s launch will feature performances from several local performers: Ah Gee, Jazzella, Greta Stanley, Silver the Moon and The Starry Field.

“After all the artists have performed, that’s when the music video will be unveiled.”

The music video for Fear will be available on YouTube from September 20.
