Tourism potential mounts for park
ATHERTON’S BIG4 Woodlands Tourist Park has been placed on the market just as mountain biking tourism hits its straps on the Tableland.
Owners Patrice and Quentin Fletcher are seeking $5.875 million for the 2.4ha property in the foothills of the area’s mountain bike trails so they can retire.
Marketing agent Shane Mullins said it was an opportunity not to be missed.
“Over the past decade the current vendor has built a powerhouse business focusing on reputation and quality,” Mr Mullins said.
“In more recent times the park has been continually upgraded to meet eco-certified nature tourism qualifications, offering a new opportunity in the marketplace catering for eco-travellers.
“Supported by ample surrounding parkland and a natural free-flowing creek, it is like no other park in North Queensland.”
Mr Mullins said mountain bikers were “a new vibrant clientele wanting to explore the region”.
“The vendor has a purposebuilt bike shed and wash bay to maximise on this market,” he said.
Mr Mullins said the park had six luxury eco-accredited cabins, and 20 tourist villas, cabins or cottages with ensuites, ranging from family villas to holiday cabins.
He said there were two long-term permanent cabins, 80 powered sites and 10 other sites. The park also has two toilet and shower amenities, two guest laundry facilities, multiple storage sites, a large fivebay workshop/shed, a camp kitchen and barbecues, a resort-style pool and a cabana.
Atherton Woodlands is about a 1.5 hour drive from Cairns and 1.5km from the centre of Atherton.
The sale includes a free standing two-bedroom house with ensuites.
“The entire park has undergone serious and significant refurbishment since being purchased in 2003,” Mr Mullins said, adding that the park attracted “corporate, domestic and overseas holiday guests”.
