Laumatia hard to beat when it comes to awards

- MICHAEL WARREN

BROTHERS hardman Sinapati Laumatia has again confirmed his status as one of the best forwards in Cairns rugby, collecting a host of awards at the club’s annual presentation dinner.

Laumatia, part of the Brethren outfit narrowly beaten by the Mudcrabs in the premier-grade grand final earlier this month, won the best forward and best and fairest awards.

The No.8 was also a co-winner of both the A-grade players’ player gong and most outstanding game award with teammate Jason Furze.

“Sinapati had a stellar year and thoroughly deserves the accolades he has received,” club official Brad Wszola said.

“I’m sure after the season he had, he, and some of his teammates will come into calculation for FNQ Thunder representative duties.”

Wszola also paid tribute to hardworking club president Marissa Powyer.

“Marissa does a lot for us and her efforts do not go unnoticed,” he said.

“We thank her for everything she has done and continues to do at the club.”

At Southside tighthead prop Derek Faa’ofo capped a great season winning best forward, players’ player and the coaches’ award.

Crusaders right centre, Rhyan Locke won best and fairest, Mafu Moevao gained best back while Michael Whiteside was most consistent. At JCU, experienced centre Mitch Francis won both the players’ player and best and fairest awards. Craig Miller was judged best forward and Lachie Rowe best back.

At Barron Bulls Cam Thomson won the best and fairest and players’ player awards, while Mitch Smith took out best forward.
