STEAMY, STORMY WITH A CHANCE OF A SMILE

-

FAR North Queensland will be offered a glimpse of the upcoming wet season with the expected arrival of more storms and humidity in coming days. This comes after the region played host to the first thunderstorm of the season on Sunday night, lifting the total rainfall to 48.2 millimetres for the month to date. But showers are expected to be isolated, with a high chance of rain in Cairns in the middle of the week – with steamy conditions to continue into the latter half of the week.

Kelsea Williams, of England, and friend Lauren Stapleton, of Sydney, were enjoying the cool of the Cairns lagoon to beat the heat.

“The weather is beautiful. It’s a bit like a picture to be honest,” Ms Williams said.

“You get the perfect combination of it all lying in the lagoon.

“It’s a great spot with the sun on your back.

“We were going to go and see the Reef today, but we flew in at 6 so we’re a bit tired. Now we’re going to go on Thursday because the weather is supposed to be a bit rubbish tomorrow.”

Temperatures are expected to remain steady over the course of the week, but humidity is set to reach its peak tomorrow after expected rainfall.

Cairns Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Robin Nataniela said the Far North was likely to experience more rain this week.

“We’re expecting showers and storms to hit coastal areas over the next couple of days,” he said.

“South-easterly winds will arrive on Wednesday and carry through to the end of the week.”
