CHRIS Sullivan has battled with budding superstars in fiercely competitive Greek professional football but says he has never seen such a tightknit team as the FNQ Heat.

The new signing has played first-team football since he was 16 and left Australia at 18 to carve out an overseas career and spent time in the South Australia NPL before moving to Cairns and finding his feet in the Far North.

Sullivan, 28, said he was thrilled to land at the Heat, following the same winds of change that took him to Greece as a teenager.

“Originally I was only going over there for two weeks and ended up finding a team and stayed for a year,” he said.

“It progressed to another year and I decided to make more of a career out of it and I stayed about seven years and I only came back to see family and I saw the leagues had changed and I decided to stay,”

Sullivan, 28, said he wanted to bring his experience to the pitch and slot into the strong culture on and off the pitch.

“It’s a really good, close team. I’ve played in teams before with big-name players and it’s just been about individual players, not the team, but I can see here all the boys get along well, there’s no arguments and it’s really positive,” he said.

FNQ Heat v Gold Coast City, Barlow Park, tomorrow 6.30pm. Full preview in tomorrow’s Cairns Post.
