Ice running hot for fourth straight win

- JORDAN GERRANS

CRUSHED Ice might just be the greyhound with the most outstanding form in Australia right now.

The Townsville-based runner is on track for its fourth victory in less than two weeks tonight at Cannon Park.

Robert Lound’s Crushed Ice has put together a stunning run of form in the past 10 days: three wins from three starts.

It is rare for a greyhound to have four runs in 10 days, across Townsville and Cairns, let alone win all the races.

The prolific streak started last Tuesday in Townsville, continued at Cairns on Friday, back to Townsville three days ago and now Crushed Ice goes for four on the bounce.

A Racing Queensland spokesman yesterday referred to Crushed Ice’s streak as “a rare occurrence”.

Crushed Ice won from box three on Tuesday and will start with the yellow rag, box five in tonight, and owner Stephen Clark likes the chances of making it four.

“We have had a few injuries with him a while ago but he has found some form so we thought we would keep him going,” he said.

“He has put it all together recently.

“He broke in as a real smart pup, he showed a little bit, then went off the boil but is looking good now.

“It is pretty rare for a dog to travel around North Queensland like this.

“It can be pretty taxing on the dog.”

Crushed Ice, at a quote of $3, will start in race five tonight over 410m.
