Toll may solve congestion

-

THANK you Peter Campion (16/5) for contributing to the electric bus versus tram debate.

Yes, I agree with you that the synchronising of traffic lights would assist traffic flow.

I disagree, however, in your assertion that not having the EV lanes would “fix congestion better”.

One of the major reasons that cities have public transport is to get people out of their cars and on to it.

Please don’t think that I think the idea of PV lanes is perfect.

One problem is the need of a bus to change lanes in busy traffic if they have to turn right.

So, perhaps an easier way to get a similar result, could be achieved by having a traffic toll, similar to those already in use for freeways and tunnels where motorists pay a toll electronically.

Such a practice, if used here, should help decongest our highways.

All electric vehicles, including buses, would, of course, be exempt from this fee. Trevor Hardwick, Westcourt Plan, the LNP have finally released their own policy.

It looks a lot like Labor’s plan. That’s because it is Labor’s plan.

Crocodile catchers already have the authority to choose how to remove problem crocodiles, including lethal force where that is deemed necessary.

The LNP propose renaming Labor’s management zones, which helps to make the LNP’s plan look different but won’t make a single person safer.

The final supposed difference is their proposal to allow wild egg harvesting.

The LNP doesn’t seem to have given much thought as to how they would actually implement egg harvesting — but Labor has been working to develop a sustainable egg harvest trial — one that complies with federal law and international treaties.

When last in government, the LNP had fewer crocodile catchers, less funds for crocodile management, smaller crocodile management zones and no funds for surveys.

That’s why the Palaszczuk government is catching twice as many crocodiles as the previous government every year to keep people safe.

By copying and pasting Labor’s plan the LNP have finally accepted Labor’s Crocodile Management Plan is the strongest Queensland has ever seen. Steven Miles, Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection
