Saddle up for top tour
FOUR hundred kilometres of the most spectacular riding lies in store for those who sign up for the 16th Far North Wilderness Bike Tour, which will be held from September 23-30.
An annual fundraiser for the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre, the ride is limited to 50 people and there are still some places available.
“We have to cap numbers due to popular demand,” said tour volunteer Ruth Zee.
“Riders pass through magnificent landscapes — it doesn’t get any better. It’s an unforgettable, self-paced mountain bike adventure over eight days, which is fully catered and passes through rainforests, woodlands, waterfalls, gorges and mountains.”
Ruth said this year’s ride had some exciting changes and accessed country that many locals had never seen.
“It’s mostly on remote dirt roads and tracks with minimal traffic.”
She said the bike tour was known for its friendly crew, fabulous food, camaraderie among riders and the scenery. “The meals are freshly homecooked.
“The ride is a charity event to support the important work of the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre,” she said.
The ride starts at Murray Falls and travels to Blencoe Falls, Yourka Reserve, Ravenshoe, Tinaroo and the Clohesy River.
