Mulgrave prevail in thriller

MULGRAVE’S stellar start to the season continued with a nailbiting away win against Atherton.

Alex Bone (55) and Marcus McGregor-Cassady (49) made the only notable contributions as Mulgrave reached a mediocre 155 at Loder Park.

Thomas Boorman (3-14) was the chief destroyer for Atherton.

In response, Atherton looked set for victory with the in-form Gerard Fox (63) combining with Paul Nasser (25) for a strong second-wicket partnership.

But Mulgrave showed why they are the competition’s best side, applying pressure with the ball and in the field to stem Atherton’s run flow.

Atherton only lost seven wickets, but still fell two runs short of victory.

At Crathern Park, Tim Ward (70) was instrumental in Barron’s 29-run win over United.

Barron reached 166 from 40 overs.

Despite a neat 51 from Michael Rasso, United could never quite hit their stride in the run chase.
