Jail for viewing kid porn

A FAR Northern man will spend the next four months behind bars after being caught with graphic child pornography videos.

Although Timothy George Beasley initially tried to argue that the material had been downloaded while accessing adult porn.

Crown prosecutor Miles Dickson disputed this argument saying the material had included four six to seven videos in one of the worst categories that were saved to Beasley’s computer he described as “quite depraved by community standards”.

Mr Dickson said it was “indicative of an unhealthy interest”. Through his barrister James Sheridan, Beasley said he did download the images and videos and had watched them along with adult porn with a “reckless disregard” to what he was viewing.

“He’s had a long standing addiction to methylamphetamines,” Mr Sheridan said.

“At the time of this offending he was under the heavy influence of methylamphetamines.”

Mr Sheridan told the Cairns District Court that Beasley’s offending was linked to an underlying weakness stemming from his drug addiction rather than any pedophilic tendencies.

The court was told there were more than 1000 images of illegal material including at least 14 category four child porn videos on his laptop.

Beasley pleaded guilty to possessing child exploitation images. He had been staying with family in Atherton when police found the images on his computer in February this year.

He was jailed for 18 months suspended after four.

A conviction was recorded.
