A MAN alleged by police as being one of the region’s significant property offenders has been remanded in custody after facing court on 50 charges.

Ronald Peter Addo, 27, was arrested on Saturday night after he and two teenage boys allegedly tried to carjack a couple in the middle of the Bruce Highway at Edmonton.

It is alleged he headbutted the driver, a 34-year-old woman, after demanding they get out of their car, before police swarmed and took the trio into custody. Police had earlier spiked the tyres of the allegedly stolen car they were driving in, before they continued driving it up the Bruce Highway in the wrong direction.

Police have alleged Mr Addo had been on a two-week crime spree involving home and business break-ins, ram raids and car thefts between Port Douglas, Innisfail, Cairns and the Tablelands.

He did not apply for bail in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday and the case was adjourned until January 25 next year.

The trio were collectively charged with 150 offences, with the 15-year-old boy facing 64 charges and the 14-year-old boy on a further 36 charges.

Cairns property crime squad detective Acting Senior Sergeant Barry Karamujic said it was also alleged one of the group bit a police officer on the finger during his arrest.
