Stanger shines as Norths best Barron
NORTHS have withstood a solid century from Barron’s Tim Germano to win their two-day match at Griffiths Park at the weekend.
Led by some quality toporder batting from Chris Stanger on day one, Norths declared at 6/285 before restricting Barron to just 202 runs off 75 overs. Stanger again was impressive with the ball, taking four wickets in a standout performance.
Norths batsman Anton Booy, who hit a rapid-fire 76, said the team showed patience with the bat and in the field.
“It was a good start from our top order and it gave me a chance to free the arms up a little bit,” Booy said.
“We only dropped one catch, which is OK. The wicket was pretty flat so it was always going to be hard going.
“They had Germano make a pretty good 110 so without him, they would have been in a bit of strife.”
Booy said Stanger’s form with bat and ball had been exceptional.
“It’s always good when he’s on because you’re always a good chance to win,” he said.
Norths travel to Atherton next week but will be without Stanger, who will be away on representative duties with North Queensland at the Queensland Country Championships in Ipswich.
Similarly, Atherton will be without star keeper Gerard Fox and Mick Salerno. 14 ..................... 13 9 Overs: 36.0 6/122 (cc) G Barletta8-0-3-28, L Parnell7.0123110, T Boorman 5-30-6 D Parnell6-2-0-24, M Salerno73-1-17, F Pittorino3-1-0-9
