SET SIGHTS ON TROUT AND MACKS

-

CORAL trout dominated reef catches, while large-mouth nannygai were a little slower with the exception of a few caught on the wonky holes.

Big spanish mackerel and cobia have been active on the reefs off Port Douglas, while off Cairns the wrecks have produced well on high-speed metal jigs, floated pilchards and live baits.

The Family Group Islands off Tully have also fished well on pelagic species.

Offshore, mahi mahi (dolphin fish) are being caught on trolled skirted lures.

Most estuary and river systems have been alive with prawns and have fired up on mangrove jacks, cod, trevally, queenfish, grunter and barra.

Cast netters have been taking great catches of banana prawns for the table and quality bait with the Daintree River, Barron River and Cairns Inlet producing well.

The Daintree River is fishing great with mangrove jacks, fingermark, trevally, queenfish and barramundi all taking soft plastic vibes and live baits.
