What’s the go with the Australian Human Rights Commission wanting companies to set targets to employ CEOs based on race, not on ability and merit? Big Tim, Mirriwinni When are we going to get handbrakes on shopping trolleys? Bob Elliston, Tasmania If the government is trying to close the gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, how is giving them Cape York fair on non-Aboriginal people? I thought closing the gap was about being equal and having the same opportunities. That doesn’t seem equal and fair. The government is dividing, not bringing us closer. Nunions, Silkwood Property crime. Once all residents barricade themselves in homes and keep keys under the bed, the crims will still enter homes. What then? Shame them and their parents. AT, Edge Hill Peter Campion (CP, 16/4) has a cheek to demand front page banner “Scientists wrong. Reef all right” on Reef health. As usual, Peter quotes a CP journo as an expert in reef science. No wonder he gets it wrong so often. He should value the output of reef scientists as they base findings on facts not political allegiances. Journos’ op eds should be qualified by stating they have no training or experience in this field, but will give their opinion regardless. Maggie, Kanimbla Heights Jeff Middleton (letters, 17/4). Biodiversity is greenie talk for banning all farming and development. There is already millions of hectares of land that has been zoned as national parks or conservation zones. Do we want to eat or just look at the trees and feel good? Let the farmers grow the food to feed our growing country. Stop the Queensland Government and their stupid land clearing laws. The Black Adder, Mt Sheridan No more plastic supermarket bags or plastic straws, how pointless. Go along the shop shelves and see how many items in glass have now been replaced by plastic containers, and in the next aisle, you can buy as many rolls of plastic bags as you like. Look in your house and see how many once timber, metal or glass items are now plastic, even in your car. We are living and dying, in a world of plastic. We are even eating it. Sandra, Mt Sheridan Kevin Byrne, president Enterprise North. We do not need another regional economic advocacy group. Lesley, Brinsmead
