Mossman Bowls Club

Ladies Results The first of Division 1 Pennant starts on Tuesday 17th April we play Atherton at Mossman. The next pennant is at Mossman on the 24th April and we play Mareeba in the morning and Yungaburra in the afternoon. We had 18 ladies play on Thursday the winners were Barbara May, Christy Colley, Denise Highland with 2w+24. Runners up were Carmen Bolton, P Speechy, Trish Arnold with 2w+11. It’s good to see our numbers improving as the weather cools. Any Ladies wanting to come and try our great game of bowls are more than welcome names into the Club by 12pm. TFNQ Bowls

Far North Queensland bowlers performed well but fell just short of retaining the Northern Challenge Cup. Following two strong wins each on day one, by both the Far North Stingers and Mackay Midgies District teams, it was fitting that the Cup would be decided in their match-up in the final game of the series. It was close throughout the 3 hour game but in the end, the home ground advantage proved the telling factor, with Mackay taking the Championship 73 shots to Far North’s 63. North Qld/Townsville Thunder finished 3rd and Atherton BCD in 4th place. West Cairns TPI Memorial Bowls Club

Despite the short, sharp showers we had last Monday, twenty four players participated in social mixed bowls last Monday. Winners were John Anderson, Merryl Chard and Sean Ellison. This week one of our lady bowlers, Margaret Lindsay, who is also a life member of West Cairns Bowls Club will be turning ninety five years old and she still plays bowls and sells raffle tickets every Monday to our members. She has been a member of our club since it commenced and can be seen pushing her four wheeled chair up and down the green on a regular basis from start of play until the game finishes each week. The game next week commences at 1.30pm with a brief flag raising ceremony for Anzac Day being held after the cards are called at 1.15pm. Players are asked to ensure they are present at this time. The game will conclude at 4.30pm as usual. Names are required to be in the hands of our selector Rosemary on 40360624 before 11.30am or at the latest at the club by 1.00pm. We welcome any visiting bowlers who are requested to advise their preferred playing position at time of nomination.

Tuesday 10thof April TFNQ DISTRICT LADIES BOWLS ASSOCIATION— GRADED TRIPLES held their competition at Silkwood Bowling Club, instead of at Tully as previously anticipated. 36 fiercely competetive bowlers battled it out. Bowlers from Atherton, Marlin Coast, West Cairns, Edmonton, Babinda, Innisfail, South Johnstone. Tully and Silkwood represented their clubs.The games started at 9am and finished with a cuppa and good food at around 4pm. Wednesday 11th of April Start of the Ladies Single Club Championship. Innisfail Bowls Club

Thursday saw another good crowd of 36 bowlers for social bowls. Winners on the day were D.Lowe, D.Irwin, M.Clifford. On Saturday, despite the fact we had 8 away on representative duties, it was great to have 16 bowlers. Bragging rights went to D.Leach, D.Lowe, V.McAvoy, H.Patterson. Our Mixed Pennants team travelled to Silkwood but unfortunately did not fire on the day and were beaten by the home side. There are still some Club Competition games on the board to be played. The games Director will be back on 4th May and we would like them all to be played before then.
