Eatery’s million milestone

- ALICIA NALLY alicia.nally@news.com.au

CAIRNS fine dining restaurant Waterbar and Grill is expected to welcome its one millionth customer today at lunchtime.

Manager Peter Crotty said the occasion came after 12 years of trading and was able to be expertly tracked due to an accountant owner with attention to detail.

The winner of a $4000 travel voucher will be revealed about 1.30pm today at the marina diner.

“One million customers is a lot for a restaurant which only sits about 130 people,” Mr Crotty said.

“That’s about 98,000 customers a year or 230 customers a day.

“It will be a big day today, it will be a great celebration.

“The first prize is enough money to get someone anywhere in the world. There are also prizes of nights at Fitzroy Island, Shangri-La, Pullman Reef Hotel Casino and trips on Passions of Paradise.”

A number of Cairns identities will also be lunching at the venue today to be a part of the festivities and Mr Crotty said he had been overwhelmed by the support provided by local businesses in donating raffle prizes.
