Boy, 11, in strife over stolen car

- JANESSA EKERT

A MOOROOBOOL youth has been charged over a burglary and vehicle theft at Westcourt.

It is alleged the 11-year-old was among a group of thieves who gained entry to a Buchan St home in the early hours of April 10 and stole a computer tablet and a phone.

The resident heard a noise, got up to investigate and saw an offender fleeing on foot. She saw her vehicle was still in the carport, but did not realise her car keys had been stolen at the time.

She was later woken by police and told her car had been seen being driven erratically around the area.

The following morning her vehicle was found damaged on Conlon Close at Manoora and was seized for forensic examination.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers took the boy into custody on Wednesday afternoon and he was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Five other males aged between 10 and 18 have already been charged in relation to the same incidents. Investigations are continuing.

He’ll be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
