TRINITY Anglican School Year 12 student Emma Simpson (left) has run the hardest race of her life to win the gruelling Julia Creek Dirt ‘n Dust triathlon.

Emma’s win is the first time in the 24-year history of the race a school student has taken top honours and the $1000 prize.

“We trained a lot in the Tablelands during the day,” she said.

“This weekend I’ve got another race in Yungaburra and then I’ll have a rest.”

As a result of her effort in last week’s race, Emma was asked to take part in a photo shoot for an upcoming Tourism Queensland advertisement.

Another TAS student, Cody Haseldine, came first in the 15-19 years male category.

TAS teacher and triathlon coach Michael Haseldine said Emma was “very focused and goal oriented”.

“She works very hard and doesn’t leave any stone unturned,” he said.
