Parents join quad campaign

-

ATHERTON parents Jodie and Mario Cocco have become quad bike safety advocates three years after their son almost lost his life.

Domenic Cocco was seven years old when, in October 2014, the quad bike he had been riding struck a power pole and he was thrown on to the road. He had not been wearing a helmet, sustained severe brain trauma and was in an induced coma for four days.

Yesterday Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace welcomed the Coccos to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s team of safety advocates.

“Fortunately, Dom has made a full recovery and now mum and dad are keen to spread vital quad bike safety messages to as many Queenslanders as possible,” Ms Grace said.

Ms Grace said more than 70 people had been killed on quad bikes in Queensland since 2001, which is about 30 per cent of all quad bike-related deaths in Australia.

The Coccos have also featured in a short film Too Fast Too Soon which recounts the tragic circumstances.
