Program to target pests
SIAM weed, thunbergia vine and pest deer are among the species to be targeted in the next year under a series of programs aimed at reducing the impacts of invasive plants and animals.
The proposed 2018-19 Biosecurity and Surveillance Programs were yesterday supported by Cairns Regional Council’s infrastructure services committee.
Five programs have been developed in consultation with local Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Biosecurity Queensland officers.
The programs give the council the ability to manage, reduce or eradicate invasive pests in areas where they could pose a significant biosecurity risk.
