Space Time may head towards winter carnival

- JON TUXWORTH

HORSE RACING TOLGA trainer Janel Ryan will consider preparing Space Time for July’s Townsville Turf Club Winter Carnival after the heavy favourite cruised to an easy win in the Class 6 Plate over 1200m at Cluden Park yesterday.

The $1.70 elect secured his third win in his last four starts after positioning himself towards the lead on the fast tempo early to outlast Mega D’Oro ($7.50) by half a length, with Thurston ($9) third.

The five-year-old gelding may now work towards the winter carnival after the consistent galloper registered his sixth win in 26 starts.

“He’s pretty honest,” Ryan said. “We’ll have to have a word with the owners.

“They might give him a bit of a break and bring him back for carnival time.

“He might get a week or two off, then he’ll have a way of telling us what he wants to do.”

Earlier yesterday at Cluden Park, fellow Tolga trainer Roy Chillemi registered an early double, with Union Jukebox and Mr Sonador winning.

Jockey Wanderson D’Avila bagged a double also, guiding Space Time and Union Jukebox across the line, while stable hoop Stephen Wilson was on board Mr Sonador in the QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap.
