Victorian veteran feels at home with Saints

- JORDAN GERRANS

AFL WITH much of the Cairns Saints women’s squad still learning the game, seasoned Ararat recruit Jakki Orszaczki is relishing the chance to provide leadership and experience.

The Victorian represented her hometown Ararat Storm Football Club before being selected in the North Ballarat Rebels Female Development squad in 2014.

Orszaczki has since moved to the Far North and is part of the Saints squad who have returned to the competition in 2018.

“I spoke with a few other clubs before deciding to play in Cairns but Saints felt like home for me,” Orszaczki said.

“Being from Victoria, I knew a few of the guys who play in the senior side from Ballarat and it feels like home.”

Orszaczki won club best and fairests, represented her league against Bendigo at their yearly interleague game while still playing in Victoria and kicked a goal on debut for Saints in their loss to South Cairns in Round 1.

“I was really proud of how the girls went in their first game – we just could not run out the full four quarters,” she said.

“The competition here pretty similar to the one played at back home.

“There is a lot of talent up here in Cairns.”

Saints will look to get their first win back in the competition when they face Round 1 winners North Cairns tomorrow morning at Crathern Park while Centrals Trinity Beach tackle South Cairns in the second round of the season double-header. is I AFL Cairns Womens Tomorrow Cairns Saints vs. North Cairns 12pm Crathern Park Centrals Trinity Beach vs. South Cairns 1.30pm Crathern Park Manunda Hawks — Bye
