Injured Mitch piles on goals after switch

- JORDAN GERRANS

A SORE foot and a change of position for the usually roaming Mitch Bohm have delivered the Port Douglas forward a goal tally usually reserved for his Crocs skipper.

Bohm suffered a slight foot injury on Thursday night at training and was sent to the goal square for much of the Crocs’ win on Saturday against Centrals Trinity Beach.

The athletic premiership player booted three goals in the first half when he was up the ground but banged on 10 second-half majors after displacing Port Douglas captain Kye Chapple from the goal square.

“I was sore and was going to pull out at halftime but they sent me up forward and sure enough I was lucky to kick a few,” Bohm said.

“It is always good to get a good win. Centrals are obviously down a bit this season after giving us our toughest game of last year but they are a good club and always tough to win against.”

Chapple still finished with three goals while usual defender Wes Glass swung forward and kicked four and clever half-forward Adam Gross added a handful.

The Crocs’ 31.17 (203) – 5.6 (36) victory over the Bulldogs extends their winning sequence to 26 games. The last time they were beaten was in the AFL Cairns second semifinal of the 2016 season.

With the competition pausing this weekend for the Cairns All Stars and Indigenous and South Pacific All Stars representative game, the two undefeated teams of AFL Cairns, Cairns Saints and Port Douglas, will meet and headline Round 6 in a fortnight’s time.
