CATTLE producer Ken Lee is stepping up the processing, marketing and distribution of his KUR-Cow beef products in the Far North.

He has signed a deal with national distributor PFD Food Services to deliver the result of his breeding and fattening program on the Atherton Tablelands.

The first of his meats were handed over to the PFD team at Portsmith last week and the sales staff will begin selling and distributing the various cuts to mainly restaurants as well as cafes, takeaway outlets and butchers.

Mr Lee said the entire beast was processed at a Far Northern abattoir and then broken down into 21 different cuts, packaged and labelled.

“The common goal is for PFD to push the Tablelands beef for us,” he said.

“The aim is to process 40 head of cattle a week but at the moment we are starting with 10.”

Mr Lee said the product was premium pastured-fed beef from his 6000-strong herd spread across the Tablelands.

He said there were three brands: KUR-Cow (Angus/ Brahman/Charolais cross), KUR-Red (Angus) and KURPearl (Wagyu).

Mr Lee said the beef initially would be distributed in the Far North, then further into Queensland and finally across Australia.

The next step would be exports, first to Hong Kong, he said.

“This really is a paddock to plane to plate experience,” Mr Lee said.

He said the products would also be served to guests taking part in KUR-World’s cattle farm tourism experience at his Barnwell Rd property at Myola.

PFD Cairns branch manager Tim Riley said he had a team of sales staff starting to market KUR-Cow throughout the Far North.

He said the product could be delivered to restaurants and other businesses in various cuts, including whole rump.

He said, as business built up, the beef would be distributed further afield through the company’s national network.

Mr Riley said it was “baby steps” as sale, marketing and distribution of KUR-Cow products gained momentum.

Mr Lee is behind the proposed $650 million KURWorld eco-resort proposed for a former cattle farm at Myola.

The Coordinator-General is currently assessing an environmental impact statement for the project.

Mr Lee is also building up a beef herd of 6000 head across various Tableland properties, including his own.
