Wednesday saw the start of the Rodeo Festival Bowls week at the Mareeba and Memorial Bowls Club. Four major competitio­ns were contested by teams from across the region and quality team entrants gave way to tight competitio­ns on all four days.

The winners on 4 wins + 33. B. Fitzpatric­k, M. Parise, E. Crema and R. Brown beat R/Up P. Soda, J. Dennis, G. Brown and S. Soda by a single shot (4 wins + 32). Third place S. Brady, B. Lynne, C. Brady and S. Gordois. Major sponsors’ Bendigo Bank manager Stephen Gear was on hand to present the prizes. Each team skipper gave thanks to Bendigo Bank, Mareeba Mazda, Hansen Ford, TGT Hardware and Apels Solicitors for their invaluable sponsorshi­p. Thursday saw 30 bowlers on the green. Winners on the day were T. Burns, R. Maguire, T. Dorrington. On Saturday our 3rd Division travelled to West Cairns to play Edge Hill in the final game of the season. Our players struggled to master the very fast green but valiantly persevered to lose the match by only one point. Congratula­tions to Edge Hill on winning the Pennant this year. At home 12 players enjoyed a social game. On Sunday it was pleasing to see a full green of 16 teams contesting the Innisfail Invitation Triples. The winners on the day were 1st; team led by D. Jaccora. 2nd; team led by F. Obah 3rd; team led by W. Hewitt. Members are reminded that Annual membership fees are now due. Please assist the club’s finances by paying them as soon as possible.

New club sponsor Cyclone Metal Roofing was welcomed in the best possible way on Sunday with a maximum of 64 bowlers gracing the green. Friday Night Barefoot bowling was a happy affair as usual. A mild evening complement­ed the competent games of our bowlers. Barefoot bowling is every Friday night 6pm. Social bowls Wednesday and Sunday 1pm. Come along all are welcome.

Marlin Coast club have broken a long drought to claim the Far North Bowls Clubs Division 1 Pennant. Marlin Coast were too good on the day. Winning score (62 shots to 47). Meanwhile the Edge Hill team were presented with the Division 2 Pennant. Babinda were runners-up after defeating West Cairns (48-31). Edge Hill claimed the Division 3 Pennant after defeating Innisfail by one shot in the final round robin game (36 shots to 35). The TFNQDBA pennants finals will be held at Yungaburra on August 5th 2018 at 1pm. Division 1 Mareeba v Marlin Coast. Division 2 Thursday Island v Edge Hill. CoCC FOURS DRAW Note: Green Fees: $10 per play per game payable to Mareeba Bowls Club. Lunches: These are optional and any players requiring lunches are required to order before the start of the morning games.

Last Monday 24 players, including two visitors from Melbourne, enjoyed pleasant conditions at West Cairns Bowls Club. Any registered bowler can join us at 1.15pm when the cards are called for the 1.30pm start of a three-hour game. Visiting bowlers are also asked to advised their preferred playing position at time of nomination. Committee members are reminded that the committee meeting on Monday starts at 11.30am.

Visitors included Deputy President of Bowls Queensland K Green and the Director B Marshall, Councillor­s B Moller and W Pitt Presidents of TFNQDBA TFNQDLBA CDLBA. The beautiful cake with our Club logo was baked and donated by Babinda Bakery. Each bowler and visitor received a booklet giving the history of the club and a pen sponsored by C Pitt and the Club. Thanks to the workers for planning the day and to those who attended for making this a very memorable day. Raffle winner J Smith (10 players received a prize in the lucky draw). Friday July 27: monthly meal night.
