Man-made night of memories
By Angus Moore, Year 12, St Augustine’s College
THE Year 12 formal has always marked the process of a high school student’s transition into adulthood.
The event that turns girls into women and boys into men, it’s an enjoyable experience for students to dance for hours, discuss the future beyond schooling, enjoy each other’s company and overall to have a great night.
For Saints students last week, this was no different.
From the overheating sports cars, sparkling dresses, suits and tuxedos and wondrous atmosphere, it’s no wonder that the Saint Augustine’s formal is held in such high regard.
The night started off extremely smoothly with each boy taking their partner down the red carpet into the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino lobby.
It then proceeded to our college captain, Toby Ellison, delivering a welcome address, followed by the first half of the dances for the evening.
It was a bit cluttered, which led to collisions and people stepping on dress trains, which was unanimously laughed upon by all.
After the main course, the second half of the dances occurred, where the previous mistakes had not been remedied, and the hilarious collisions still occurred.
Then came one of the major reasons for getting dressed and dolled up for a formal – the photographs. They symbolise the memories and friendships formed.
