Oktoberfest brew­ing

HEM­ING­WAY’S Brew­ery Cairns Wharf will join with Cairns Ger­man Club to host the city’s annual Oktoberfest event this week­end. Three Ger­man-style ales, brewed es­pe­cially for the event, will be avail­able as well as tra­di­tional Ger­man food and entertainment. Cel­e­bra­tions kick off on Fri­day from 5pm and there will be prizes for pa­trons dressed in their best leder­ho­sen or dirndl/ fancy dress. The main event on Satur­day is tick­eted and starts at 11.30am. Adults $18, 14-17 years $5 and un­der 14 free.

Leg-up in busi­ness

IF you want to start or grow your busi­ness, there is a chance to learn more at to­mor­row’s busi­ness bank­ing 101 workshop with the Young En­trepreneurs Project. The group hold weekly small group work­shops on a range of top­ics to help peo­ple start or grow a busi­ness. Tara Dixon will be pre­sent­ing at this week’s workshop, teach­ing lo­cals about money man­age­ment for busi­ness and how to ef­fec­tively fi­nance ven­tures. Bush­fire mon­i­tored

FIRE crews were last night mon­i­tor­ing a bush­fire burn­ing just south of Mount Mol­loy, near the Mul­li­gan High­way and Quaids Road, Southedge. The fire, which a Queens­land Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vice spokes­woman re­ported as be­ing about 10km wide was pos­ing no threat to prop­erty at the time, and was ex­pected to burn for sev­eral days. Po­lice crews were di­rect­ing traf­fic on the road.
