HEMINGWAY’S Brewery Cairns Wharf will join with Cairns German Club to host the city’s annual Oktoberfest event this weekend. Three German-style ales, brewed especially for the event, will be available as well as traditional German food and entertainment. Celebrations kick off on Friday from 5pm and there will be prizes for patrons dressed in their best lederhosen or dirndl/ fancy dress. The main event on Saturday is ticketed and starts at 11.30am. Adults $18, 14-17 years $5 and under 14 free.

The group hold weekly small group workshops on a range of topics to help people start or grow a business. FIRE crews were last night monitoring a bushfire burning just south of Mount Molloy, near the Mulligan Highway and Quaids Road, Southedge. The fire, which a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman reported as being about 10km wide was posing no threat to property at the time, and was expected to burn for several days. Police crews were directing traffic on the road.
