Mundine-Horn to hit bigtime in US

- JAMIE PANDARAM

HE famously kicked Anthony Mundine out of his office but boxing supremo Bob Arum has been instrumental in securing The Man’s fight against Jeff Horn for an audience of millions in the US.

The November 30 clash between the two Australians at Suncorp Stadium will be broadcast live in the US on the ESPN+ app, while highlights of the fight and card will be replayed on the main ESPN channel.

Fifteen years ago, Mundine Croc winner Urs Huber, with Luxemburg’s Soren Nissen in third.

The two Swiss racers now have a 11:44min lead overall ahead of Nissen.

Traversing through 118km of steep terrain while trying to gain the lead off his compatriot went to the US to find a promoter who could secure him major fights there, but Arum had heard about his controversial comments over 9/11.

“I just didn’t like him so I asked him to leave my office. I just found him to be a very surly kind of guy,” Arum said.

“Since then I’ve had no contact with him.

“Jeff Horn made a big impression in America with his fights against Manny Pacquiao and Terence Crawford, so he is an attraction. Whenever we can get him on TV, we will.

“The fight will be shown live had been an exhausting challenge, Huber said.

“This was definitely tough today,” Huber said. “It was more than five hours, up and down, steep climbs and downhills and really long, but it was a nice track. (It was) a proper Crocodile Trophy stage. on the ESPN+ app, which has two million subscribers, and then some of it will be replayed on the main channel and Sports Centre so you could have 1.5 million to two million viewers.

“Mundine is still dangerous but you know where my heart is? I think Jeff is too young and fresh for him and should do it.”

Mundine holds no grudges against the Top Rank Promotions boss over the snubbing years ago.

“I vaguely remember the meeting, I was young, cocky, brash,” Mundine said.

“We saved some energy for the next few days.

“It’s still a long way, but this is a hard race, whether you go full gas or not …. it’s always hard.”

Full details of the women’s stage weren’t available at deadline.

“I just wanted to crack the big time over there. But I never conduct myself to be a dickhead. I’m always respectful.”

In a statement of intent in his preparation, Mundine plans to leave for the US tomorrow for a three-week training camp with boxing legend Roy Jones Jr in Florida.

“It is tremendous training, and it is all work,” Mundine said. “The last time I went over there I was 83kg. I was heavy because I was going up in weight for the Danny Green rematch.

“This time I am at 78kg, by the time I get back I’ll probably be 75kg, but I’ll be ripped. I’ll be chiselled.”

Mundine and Horn will meet at a catchweight of 71kg, and Mundine cannot weigh more than 75kg an hour before the fight or he’ll incur fines of up to $1 million.

“I’ll have no problems stepping in below 75kg, I’ll make it even eating my carbs,” Mundine said.
