Ladies look forward to high-level competition
NEW members of Marlin Coast Bowls Club’s Division 1 ladies’ team are hoping to gain “invaluable experience” when they travel to the state pennant finals at Tweed Heads this weekend.
MCBC ladies secretary Bronwyn Andreatta, who didn’t travel with the team to last year’s finals, said she is looking forward to her first state pennant finals tournament.
“It’s exciting for everybody, but especially for myself and the other new players,” she said.
“We have a combination of different players going down. There’s a core group (of players) that have been playing together for years, plus a few newer ones. I’m one of the newer players.”
The ladies’ upcoming finals appearance will be their fourth time representing Zone 8 at the state level.
The team has done well in previous years, considering some of the teams they play against feature Queensland representative players.
“They’re almost professionals in terms of coaching and training,” Andreatta said.
“If you’ve ever watched bowls on the telly — they’re the kind of players we’ll be up against.
“It’s pretty high-level, but it will be a great experience and a fantastic opportunity for our club.”
The northern beachesbased club added a roof to its green in 2015 and will lay a new green in coming weeks.
“We’re pretty small, with 150 members, and we’re volunteer-run, so we do pretty well,” Andreatta said.
